Akhilesh Yadav said on the occasion, “The Election Commission is a constitutional institution, but it is now being used for political interests. The names of the poor and marginalized people are being removed from the voter list in Bihar, which is an attack on democracy.” He cited Kundarki, Meerapur in Uttar Pradesh, Meerapur and Milkipur by -elections in Ayodhya, saying that there too the police and administration together did the work of “robbing elections”.
Opposition’s allegations and response to ruling party
The opposition claims that 7.9 crore voters are being investigated in Bihar under the SIR process, in which the names of the solid Aadhaar are being removed. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said, “It has never happened before that such a large number of voters’ names had been removed before the election. It is a murder of democracy.” At the same time, the ruling party dismissed these allegations and described it as a regular process. Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “The opposition is concerned about the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis. It is the responsibility of the Election Commission to ensure the purity of the voter list.”
