Shad Ali said- ‘When I heard its 8-second referring … then I came to know that this song would do wonderful … but Yash Raj had put it on the last number … Yash Raj felt that it would be the least popular. Amitabh Bachchan was also suspicious of singing, he even said that do not shoot this song. But, I stood on my thinking.

Amitabh Bachchan did not trust ‘Kajra Re’

The director further says- ‘I was confident that this song would be a hit and I convinced Amitabh ji to listen to it carefully. When I called him to listen to the song … he said that ‘it will not work.’ Amitabh Bachchan felt that the song needed better creative input. There were some suggestions about the song, like the song suddenly starts in the middle, it needs to work again. He did all the jugalbandi in the song. I wanted him to sing it, but he refused and asked Shankar Mahadevan to sing it. Although later Amitabh Bachchan said yes to sing, but he still had suspicion in his mind.

Shad recalled- ‘In the same, he was shooting for a song for a film, I don’t remember the name of the film properly and he said- Look, this is the item song. However, when the film was released, ‘Kajra Re’ became very popular. After watching the popularity of the song, Amitabh Bachchan also apologized to Shad for doubting his creativity.
