Chandra Barot, director of Amitabh Bachchan’s superhit film ‘Don’, died in Mumbai on Sunday, 20 July at the age of 86. This sad news has been confirmed by his wife Deepa Barot. Barot was undergoing treatment for his lung related disease for the past several years. Before his death, his condition became very critical, soon after which he was admitted to the Guru Nanak Hospital in the city where Dr. Manish Shetty was undergoing treatment. Earlier, he was kept in Jaslok Hospital. Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot is known for the 1978 Cult Classic ‘Don’.

Deepa Barot, wife of the director of ‘Don’, confirmed the news of the demise to the Times of India, saying, “He was struggling with pulmonary fibrosis for the last seven years.” Please tell that the director said goodbye to the world at the age of 86. He was ill for the last 7 years due to lung problems.

Stars paid tribute to don director

On hearing the news of Chandra Barot’s death, Farhan Akhtar also shared a post on the death of the director and paid tribute to him. Sharing the photo of director Chandra, he wrote, ‘It is sad to know that the director of OG Don is no longer among us. Chandra Barot ji’s soul should be peaceful. My deep condolences to the family. ‘ His fans are also paying tribute to him on social media.

How did Chandra Barot recognize

Chandra Barot, who came to India from Tanzania, started his career with the Hindi film industry. He first started working as an assistant director with actor-filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who was incidentally died a few months ago. Chandra has worked with Manoj in ‘East and West’, ‘Shor’ and ‘Roti Cloth and Ghhana’. Chandra Barot was successful in 1978 when he decided to direct ‘Don’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and then what was the film became an all time blockbuster. Big B also got a distinct identity from ‘Don’. He also directed the Bengali film ‘Ashrita’ in 1989 and the Hindi film ‘Pyaar Bhara Dil’ in 1991. But, no film was achieved like ‘Dawn’. After this Chandra Barot got the title of ‘One-Hit Wonder’.
