Amitabh Kant’s resignation from the post of G20 Sherpa, will start a new journey after 45 years of service

The 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Amitabh Kant, retired from Kerala cadre, has announced his resignation from the post of G20 Sherpa on Monday. Officer Kant was appointed as India’s G20 Sherpa in July 2022, a few months before India assumed the G20 Presidency. He announced his resignation in the post titled ‘My New Journey’ on LinkedIn. According to PTI news, Kant, who was the face behind India’s G20 preparations, said that leading India’s multilateral dialogue as G20 Sherpa has been one of the most important mile stones in his career. Amitabh Kant took over various charge during the 45 -year government service.

India’s G20 chairmanship was decisive

According to the news, Amitabh Kant said that in 2023, India carried out one of the most inclusive, ambitious, action-oriented and deciding G20 presidents seen so far. We gained consensus on the manifesto of New Delhi leaders despite important geopolitical challenges, focusing the world’s focus on important developmental priorities such as digital public infrastructure, multilateral financial reforms, climate finance and women leading development. India held a G20 meeting in every state and union territory, which made significant contribution to cooperative federalism through making cities beautiful and upgraded, including local artists and craftsmen and promoting local cuisine.

Amitabh Kant counted achievements

  • We successfully expanded the G20 to include the African Union, which led to India’s promise and commitment to cooperate with global inclusion and global South.
  • Amitabh Kant, who played his role as CEO of NITI Aayog by 2016-2022, said that he had the privilege of becoming a part of transformative aspirational district program, which upheld 115 most backward districts in India by improving socio-economic indicators and creating opportunities for millions of citizens.
  • Through promoting manufacturing and accelerating industrial development, through incentive schemes, green hydrogen missions, advanced chemistry and Atal Innovation Mission, the Commission played an important role in establishing India as a global leader in climate action, state -of -the -art innovation and sustainable enterprises.
  • His tenure as Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, now called the Department of Industry and Internal Trade Promotion, was dedicated to improvement and liberalization, which focused on ease of doing business and Make in India and Startup India initiatives.
  • Kerala was the first house of my IAS career, and I learned a lot from its communities – launched the ‘Gods on Country’ campaign, supported the expansion of Calicut Airport, and worked closely with fishermen and women from Kerala.
  • Whatever I learned, put it in the policies of the Center – ‘Incredible India’ was born during his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, as he saw India’s diversity to do for the economy, ecology and essence of any place.
  • India has always been and will remain incredible. I have contributed in a small way to help the world recognize it. Kant said that he is very grateful to Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar for inspiration, guidance and faith.
