In Bollywood, Amjad Khan’s name is remembered as an actor who got his acting iron in the field of villain. Born on 12 November 1940, Amjad Khan inherited the art of acting. His father Jayant played the role of a villain in the film industry.
Amjad Khan started his acting life as an artist with the film ‘Ab Delhi Do Nahi’ released in the year 1957. Amjad Khan played the role of a child artist in this film. Amjad Khan was going to start his career as an actor through his home production film ‘Patthar Ke Sanam’ in 1965, but for some reason the film could not be produced.
In the seventies, Amjad Khan, after completing his college studies from Mumbai, turned to the film industry to work as an actor. In 1973, as an actor, he started his career with the film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’ but could not make his mark among the audience with this film.
Meanwhile, seeing Amjad Khan acting in the theater, screenwriter Salim Khan offered Amjad Khan to play the role of Gabbar Singh in Sholay, which was accepted by Amjad Khan. Gabbar Singh, the character of Bollywood’s blockbuster film ‘Sholay’, gave Amjad Khan a strong identity in the film industry but the first Danny’s name was proposed for the role of Gabbar Singh at the time of production of the film.
At the time of production of the film ‘Sholay’, Gabbar Singh’s role was given to Danny but he refused to work in Sholay due to working in the Dharmatma at that time. On the recommendation of Sholay’s storyteller Salim Khan, Ramesh Sippy gave Amjad Khan an opportunity to play the role of Gabbar Singh.
When Salim Khan asked Amjad Khan to play the role of Gabbar Singh in the film Sholay, Amjad Khan went to panic but later took it as a challenge and started studying the book ‘curse’ cursed Chambal ‘on Chambal bandits. Later, when the film Sholay was released, Amjad Khan’s character ‘Gabbar Singh’ became so popular in the audience that people started imitating his voice and trick.
The success of the film Sholay led to a tremendous change in Amjad Khan’s cine career and he became the unconscious king of the world of villain. After this, he never looked back and started looting the applause of the audience with his strong acting.
In the film ‘Chess Khiladi’ released in 1977, he got a chance to work with great director Satyajit Ray. Through this film too, he kept the audience’s mind.
Amjad Khan also changed his roles to change the uniformity in his acting and establish himself as a character actor. In this sequence, Amjad Khan entertained the audience by acting in the superhit film Kurbani of Feroz Khan in the year 1980. In the year 1981, the new look of Amjad Khan’s acting came to the audience. He did not even hesitate to play the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s father in Prakash Mehra’s superhit film unclaimed.
In the film ‘Yarana’ released in 1981, he played the role of a friend of superstar Amitabh Bachchan. Filmed on him in this film, this song became very popular among Bishan Chacha Kuch Gao children. Amjad Khan was also awarded the Film Pair Award for Best Co -Actor for the second time in his cine career for his strong performance in this film. Earlier, in the year 1979, he was also awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Co -Artist for the film Dada.
In 1983, Amjad Khan also stepped into the direction of direction through the film ‘Chor Police’ but the film was badly rejected at the box office. After this, in the year 1985, Amjad Khan directed the film ‘Amir Aad Aad Aad Aad’ but here he also faced defeat.
During an accident in 1986, Amjad Khan almost came out of the mouth of death and his health continued to decline due to continuous consumption of medicines during treatment. His body continued to become heavy. Amjad Khan reduced working in films due to poor health in the nineties. Azim actor Amjad Khan, who has entertained the audience for almost three decades with his performance, turned from this world on 27 July 1992.
