In the 19th match of WBBL 2023 (MR-W vs ST-W), Sydney Thunder won by 37 runs and Melbourne Renegades suffered their third consecutive defeat. Playing first, Sydney Thunder scored 190/5 in 20 overs, in response to which Melbourne Renegades could only score 153/7 despite playing the entire over. Sydney Thunder’s Hannah Darlington was named player of the match for her bowling performance of 4/33.

Sydney Thunder won the toss and decided to bat first and got a good start. The pair of Tahila Wilson and Chamari Atapattu added 67 runs for the first wicket. This partnership was broken by Georgia Wareham and Atapattu’s innings ended at 32 runs in 26 balls. On the score of 81 in the 10th over, Wilson also became the victim of Harmanpreet Kaur after scoring 30 runs in 23 balls.

From here, captain Heather Knight along with Phoebe Lichfield (27) took the score beyond 100. Lichfield was out on the score of 113 in the 14th over. Marijane Kapp played an inning of 11 runs and Anika Leeroyd played an inning of 15 runs. However, Heather Knight stood firm till the end and scored an excellent half-century, scoring 52 runs in 31 balls. In this way the team made a big score. Harmanpreet Kaur took the maximum of two wickets for Melbourne Renegades.

Melbourne Renegades, who came to chase the target, got the first and biggest blow in the form of captain Hayley Mathews (8) at the score of 16 in the third over itself. The score had increased by only 22 runs and the team had to lose the wicket of Courtney Webb at the score of 38, who was out in the seventh over after scoring 13 runs. Tammy Beaumont (37) along with Harmanpreet Kaur (13) took the score to 71.

Harmanpreet’s innings ended in the 11th over, while Beaumont was out in the 12th over. Georgia Wareham also returned to the pavilion on a personal score of 25 at the score of 107 in the 15th over. From here Josephine Dooley (19*) and Sarah Coit (30) did not let their team suffer any setback before the last over but the pace of runs remained very slow and the team remained away from the target. Hannah Darlington took the maximum of four wickets for Sydney Thunder.
