Another girl in Odisha set herself on fire, died, police engaged in investigation

A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Padampur area of Bargarh district of Odisha. Where a 13 -year -old eighth grade student set herself on fire. Due to which he died. The incident took place in Firingimal village of Gasilate police station area. The victim, who was staying at her maternal uncle’s house, came home from the hostel on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima. It is being told that the teachers left him home due to health reasons.

Student burnt herself in football ground

According to preliminary information, the student set herself on fire by putting flammable substances on the football ground of the village. The villagers rescued him in critical condition and immediately rushed him to the government hospital in Bargarh. As the situation was critical, he was shifted to Burla’s Vimsar Hospital, where the doctor tried to save his life but died.

Police engaged in investigation

The victim in her statement has mentioned the rift with another girl, on the basis of which the police have started investigation. In view of the seriousness of the case, the police has formed a special team of three police station officers, which is trying to get to the bottom of the cause of the incident. It is not yet clear whether the student took this step herself or someone else provoked it.

A similar painful incident took place last month

On July 12, 2025, a 20 -year -old B.Ed. at Balasore, Odisha’s Fakir Mohan Autonomous College. The student set herself on fire in the college campus. Two days after this heartbreaking incident, he died in AIIMS Bhubaneswar on 14 July. According to the hospital, the student was admitted in critical condition after 95% of the body burning, and could not be saved despite the doctors’ efforts.

According to reports, the student had accused her head of department, Sameer Kumar Sahu, of sexual harassment. He had filed a complaint with the college administration and local police, but disappointed with no concrete action, he took this extreme step. Sahu and college principal Dilip Ghosh were arrested after the incident. The incident spread outrage across Odisha. Opposition parties, BJD and Congress, staged protests accusing the state government of failure in women’s safety. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured severe punishment to the culprits. The National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women have also intervened in the matter.
