New Delhi: The scope of sports isn’t limited to only physical activity, it goes much beyond it, Union Minister for Communications, and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M Scindia said at the News9 Global Summit in Stuttgart on Thursday.
At the three-day News9 Summit that began on Thursday, sports hs been earmarked as one of the key aspects of Indo-German collaboration alongside business, economy, technology, culture and others.
Germany has taken an active role in the promotion and development of football, taken initiatives to spot, scout and nurture fresh talent and turn them into professional stars.
Through its partnership with TV9 Network, Bundesliga’s entered into the Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Maharashtra to pledge commitment for growing footballing ecosystem in India.
Scindia said that the purview of sports is often restricted to physicality in general. But it is often ignored how sports help in forging team bonding, provide a feeling of camaraderie and foster unity.

“The first time, not only in the history of Indian media but media worldwide, that an event of this magnitude scale is behind held at the historical MHP arena — the temple of soccer. This conveys many stories,” Scindia said, representing the Indian government at the summit alongside Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw.
“Sports is not only a physical activity. It involves camaraderie, builds a team, builds partnerships and promotes relationships between people. Therefore, it is only apt that when a confident India, now arriving on the global stage, takes a foot forward, it is only natural that it will be a striker’s foot. But it will be a team effort,” Scindia added.
“I must congratulate Barun Das ji (MD and CEO of TV9 Network). He has, with TV9, started an epoch-making trend. it is due to him that confluence between sports, people, cultures and civilisations is taking place on this stage in Stuttgart.”
After his speech, Scindia was presented with a jersey from the German delegates and a shawl from TV9 Network’s MD and CEO Barun Das as tokens of appreciation.
