There is a rumor about Shreyas Iyer at this time that he can be made the next ODI captain after Rohit Sharma. Now the BCCI has given the first reaction on these rumors. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devjit Saikia, has broken his silence on the rumors of Shreyas Iyer being made ODI captain.

Earlier media reports came that Iyer, who was excluded from the Asia Cup 2025 team, is at the forefront of India’s next captain in place of Rohit Sharma in the 50 -over format. According to this report, it was also learned that BCCI is thinking about freeing Rohit from the captaincy load.

However, while speaking to Hindustan Times, Saikia dismissed all the rumors, saying that the BCCI management had not discussed the matter. Saikia said, “This is new to me. There has been no such discussion.”

Earlier, Iyer was the center of discussion due to being dropped from the Asia Cup team. India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar told about the exclusion of Shreyas during the team’s announcement and said, “In the case of Shreyas, this is neither his fault nor our. It’s just that you can choose 15 players and currently you have to wait for their turn.”

Let me tell you that Iyer was the recently scored sixth highest run -scorer in IPL 2025 and it was his best season, where he scored an average of 50.33 in 17 matches, a strike rate of 175.07 and 604 runs with six centuries. His best score was 97* run.
