Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attended the SCO summit in Tianjin city of China. On returning to Delhi from China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to the phone to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the phone. PM Modi has discussed the situation arising out of rain and floods in Punjab with CM Bhagwant Mann. PM Modi has assured CM Mann State of all possible help and support.

CM Mann wrote a letter to PM Modi

The floods in Punjab have caused havoc. Due to this, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi on Sunday demanding the release of pending funds of Rs 60,000 crore from the Center. Mann also appealed to amend the rules of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), so that the affected farmers could be given compensation of at least Rs 50,000 per acre.

The issue of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was also raised

In a letter to PM Modi, CM Mann also said that the central government has recently canceled projects worth Rs 828 crore in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Punjab, which can affect the rural connectivity of the state.

Many villages of Hoshiarpur immersed in floods

Due to heavy rains, some villages in Hoshiarpur district were flooded on Sunday, while the Kapurthala district administration issued an alert and appealed to the people of Sultanpur Lodhi region to go to safe places in view of increasing water level in Beas river due to continuous rains in the upper mountainous areas.

Holiday declared in schools

The state government has extended the period of closing all schools till September 3. Earlier, the government had declared holidays in schools from 27 to 30 August. The Patiala district administration has advised people not to go near the sides of Ghaggar and Tangri rivers in view of rain.
