Mythology of Asha Dashami fast:
According to this legend, in ancient times, a king named Nal used to rule in Nishad country. When his brother Pushkar defeated him in a gift, Nal went out of the kingdom with his Bharya Damayanti. He used to travel from one forest to another every day and used to live his life by taking water and wandered in a fierce fierce forests. Once the king saw some birds with golden radiance in the forest. With the desire to catch them, the king spread clothes on them, but they all flew into the sky with clothes. This made the king very sad. Seeing Damayanti in deep sleep, he left her in the same position and left.
When Damayanti woke up from sleep, he saw that King Nal was not there. Not finding the king there, she started crying in the fierce forest. Being satisfied with great grief and mourning, she started wandering around with the desire to see the tap. Similarly, several days passed and wandering, she reached the Chedi country. Damayanti started living there. The small babies there used to surround him with pride in seeing him in this state.
Once, Damayanti, who was surrounded by many people, was seen by the Rajmata of the Chedi country. At that time Damayanti was lying on the ground like the line of the moon. His face was published. Rajmata called him to his building and asked- Who are you? On this, Damayanti said ashamed- I am a married woman. I neither wash anyone’s feet nor eat none of the food. If someone receives me while living here, he will be punishable by you. Goddess, I can live here with this vow.
Rajmata said- Okay, this will happen. Then Damayanti accepted to stay there. Similarly, some time was spent. Then a Brahmin brought Damayanti to her parents’ house, but she was very sad without her husband and brothers. Once Damayanti called a superior Brahmin and asked him- ‘O Brahmin deity! You tell me some such donation and fast so that my husband can get me.
On this, that Brahmin said- ‘Do the Asha Dashami fast, which gives you the desired accomplishment, all your sorrows will be overcome and you will get your lost husband back.’ Then Damayanti performed the ritual of ‘Asha Dashami’ fast and due to the effect of this fast, Damayanti again attained her husband.
