Professor Ramesh C. Kapoor dies

Karnataka: Professor Ramesh C. Kapoor died today i.e. on Thursday in Bengaluru. He died at 7 am today after a brief illness. He was 76 years old.

Born on 26 September 1948, Professor Kapoor dedicated his life to the study of the universe and the rich history of Indian astronomy. He from Agra University from his M.Sc. And Ph.D. Completed and then started his remarkable career.

Connected with IIA in 1974

In 1971, he joined the Uttar Pradesh State Observatory, Nainital (now Aries). A few years later, in March 1974, he joined the Indian Institute of Astronomy (IIA), where he contributed significantly to his retirement on 30 September 2008.

Professor Kapoor’s primary research focused on relativist astrophysics, including Black Hole, White Hole, Quaser and Pulsar to understand the secrets. Apart from his work in modern astronomy physics, he was also a respected expert in the history of Indian astronomy. His research includes important discoveries such as the use of a telescope for the first time from India and the records of historic eclipses, comets and planets of planets seen from the country. He was also part of several eclipse campaigns in IIA.

Be active in popularizing science

Professor Kapoor, known for his passion to popularize astronomy, was a familiar face in the media, who represented the institute as a spokesperson of IIA and participated in debates and discussions related to astronomical events at the national level.

For more than 25 years, he organized astronomy exhibitions on behalf of IIA in the annual meetings of the Indian Science Congress. Even after his retirement, he remained dedicated to the public awareness efforts of the institute, especially he had a keen interest in astronomy communication in regional languages.

Were rich in versatility

He has also written articles on Indian medical practice, which was a passion and hobby he inherited from his family. Along with music and poetry, he had various interests like photography, art and journey.
