The Kolkata Police has banned the trailer of the controversial film ‘The Bengal Files’ based on the 1946 Calcutta riots on Saturday. Its director Vivek Agnihotri has claimed that the trailer of the film was to be released in a 5 star hotel in the metropolis in the afternoon. However, the policemen on the event venue refused to comment on the issue. Vivek Agnihotri alleged that it was an attack on democratic rights of the people as the censor board had approved the film and the Calcutta High Court had ordered a stay on the ban imposed on it. Vivek Agnihotri along with his wife and actress Pallavi Joshi also reached the event.

‘The Bengal Files’ is based on communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s. The film is to be released in theaters on 5 September. Talking about the trailer of the film ‘The Bengal Files’, it shows Hindu-Muslim riots.

Anupam Kher is playing the role of Mahatma Gandhi in ‘The Bengal Files’. At the same time, artists like Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumar are also seen in it. Apart from this, Madalsa Sharma and ‘Gadar 2’ fame Simrat Kaur, who became famous with the TV show ‘Anupama’, will also be seen. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri wrote and directed ‘The Bengal Files’.
