Attention Destruction coming towards earth at a speed of 52117 km per hour, Nasa rings alarm bell
Science News Desk – An asteroid the size of a football stadium is coming towards Earth at a speed of 52117 kilometers per hour. NASA has issued a red alert regarding this asteroid. It is being called Asteroid 2023 WK3. Its diameter is 850 feet. It has been revealed that this asteroid has passed closest to the Earth on 18 November 2024 at 7:11 pm. However, this distance is about 6.16 million kilometers, which means it will not have any effect on the Earth. Let us know about it.
Asteroids can be dangerous
Asteroid 2023 WK3 is a group of rocky objects called near-Earth objects (NEOs). These objects orbit the Sun and have remained mostly unchanged since the formation of the Solar System 4.6 billion years ago. Let us tell you that there are fewer asteroids in the atmosphere as compared to planets and their size and shape are also different. The size of this asteroid brings it to the list of dangerous asteroids. NASA lists PHAs (Potentially Hazardous Asteroids) as asteroids larger than 492 feet, falling within 7.5 million kilometers of Earth.
Is Earth in danger?
NASA has informed that asteroid 2023 WK3 will not pose any immediate threat to Earth. Even though it is 6.16 million kilometers away from Earth, it is still considered safe. However, scientists believe that such asteroids may pose a risk in the future. Scientists believe that tracking asteroids helps protect the Earth. Even though 2023 WK3 is harmless, it provides important data. NASA has issued a red alert for asteroid 2023 WK3, a giant space rock the size of a football stadium.
