The release of Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor’s film ‘Ayesha’ has completed 15 years. The film was released on 6 August 2010 and gradually became a Cult classic, especially among fashion lovers and youth. This was Riya Kapoor’s first film as a producer.

The film ‘Ayesha’ featured Amrita Puri, Ira Dubey and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles, and directed by Rajshree Ojha. On this special occasion, Sonam Kapoor recalled the film and said, when we were making Ayesha, we had no intention to ‘influence culture’.

Sonam said, we were two girls who wanted to make a film that we wanted to see ourselves, and Bollywood was not giving us at that time. People felt this and told us that Ayesha became a generation-oriented film for the youth of that time.

Experiment with fashion and mainstream thinking changed

Sonam said, we knew from the beginning that we want to play with fashion, want to make her cool but also accessible. We loved fashion, we knew that everyone was interested in it, but before that no film was so front-footed that put fashion at the center. We did not know how Ayesha would affect Indian cinema or youth’s mentality and pop culture.

Fashion in Bollywood first came to the center

Ayesha brought a change in Bollywood for the first time that fashion was not just part of the background, but it was part of the story. It raised the discussion on style and self-except in the mainstream-something that I have always supported.

Ayesha was the story of every girl “

Sonam said, so Ayesha is still very close to my heart and is special for every girl in my generation. Her character represents every young woman who is searching herself, cool, self -sufficient but also emotional and incomplete – and in search of love. Perhaps this is the reason why Ayesha is still alive in pop culture, wardrobe and hearts – and this is the biggest gift for us.
