Bangladeshi citizen living as a Buddhist monk in Gaya, Bihar arrested

Patna, October 20 (IANS). A Bangladeshi national has been arrested at Gaya airport in Bihar, identified as Babu Jo Barua alias Rajeev Dutta.

Barua was living illegally in India for the last eight years. He became a Buddhist monk and lived in a monastery in Gaya.

On Friday, he was detained by airport security personnel while trying to board a flight to Thailand.

Upon investigation, it was found that he was living without a valid passport or visa and was using fake documents.

A lookout circular has already been issued against him. He was handed over to Magadh Medical Police Station, Gaya for further action.

Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Bharti said, “A Bangladeshi national was living in Bihar’s Gaya district for eight years without a visa or passport. He was trying to flee to Thailand from Gaya International Airport. He had The documents recovered are fake and he has been arrested from Gaya airport.

The Bangladeshi national was attempting to travel to Thailand on flight number TG327 on Indian passport (X7037848).

Due to his suspicious behavior during inspection by the Aviation Security Group, he was further interrogated during which he revealed that he has been living as a Buddhist monk in Gaya for the last eight years and is in fact a Bangladeshi citizen.

After his arrest, authorities found several passports with different names. Many types of documents including Aadhar Card and PAN Card were also found.

Apart from this, foreign currencies including 1560 Thai Baht, five Euros, 411 US dollars and Indian currency worth Rs 3,800 were recovered from him. Investigation revealed that he was using the passport under a false identity.

The accused has been charged under sections 318(4), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS) and Indian Passport Act 12 at Magadh Medical Police Station. At present, further investigation is going on in this matter.
