Bangladesh stuck in economic crisis

Bangladesh is struggling to meet its payment obligations under the 2017 agreement, as its import cost has increased in 2022 after the Russia-Ukraine conflict and domestic political upheaval. Adani had reduced the supply last year and in March 2025, the entire supply was resumed after paying some outstanding amount of Bangladesh. With fresh payments, Bangladesh has paid around $ 1.5 billion in a total outstanding amount of about two billion dollars.

Half of the power supply was stopped

Adaani Power’s fully-owned Anusani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL) had reduced its power supply to Bangladesh in November 2024 due to a bill of $ 84.6 million in November 2024. Earlier, Adani Company had written a letter to the Energy Secretary of Bangladesh requesting that the Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) be asked to pay the outstanding amount by October 30. In a letter written on 27 October, the company of Adani Group said that if the outstanding bills are not paid, it would be obliged to take subscriptions under the power purchase agreement (PPA) by suspending the power supply on 31 October.
