Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli availability for world cup 2027:
The two biggest and experienced players of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, playing in the ODI Cup 2027 are no longer considered to be fixed. However, both of them retired from T20 and Test cricket to make it clear that their focus is on ODI format so that they could prepare for the World Cup 2027. But now the new schemes of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) feel that their path will not be so easy.

Let us know that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had announced his retirement from T20 International Cricket on June 29. Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on 7 May 2025 and Virat Kohli on 12 May.

BCCI will interact with both cricketers

According to sources, the board is soon planning to negotiate ‘honest and professional’ with these two experienced players. A senior official told the news agency PTI, “We have more than two years for World Cup 2027. But by then both Rohit and Kohli will be close to 40 years. In such a situation, we have to make a clear plan already. We want to give opportunity to the youth, so that a strong team can be prepared in time.”

Lack of ODI matches is also a big challenge

BCCI is also monitoring that by the end of 2026, the Indian team will play only 27 ODIs. These matches will also be between Test and T20 schedules. In such a situation, if Rohit and Kohli play only ODIs, then it can be difficult for them to return to form due to regular practice and lack of match practice.

Decision on players

Sources have also made it clear that no pressure will be put on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The official said, “Both have given a lot to Indian cricket. Their experience and contribution cannot be ignored. But the decision will be based on where they find themselves mentally and physically.”
