The decision has been taken based on the recommendation of former cricketer and head coach Gautam Gambhir, who are playing an important role in deciding the strategic direction of Indian cricket.

BCCI, keeping in mind the 2027 World Cup, can hand over the captaincy of the Indian ODI team to Shubman Gill, while Rishabh Pant can be given the responsibility of vice -captain. It is believed that both players are favorite of Gautam Gambhir.

Both these players have recently been given the role of captain and vice -captain in the Test series against England. If the board takes this decision on the recommendation of Gautam Gambhir, it will be a solid step towards the team’s future.

Gill’s bright form in ODIs

Shubman Gill has performed tremendously in ODI cricket in the last two years. He has so far scored 2328 runs in 47 ODIs for India at an average of 58.2 and a strike rate of 101.7. He has 6 centuries, 13 half -centuries and a double century.

Gill’s technical efficiency and stability has included him among the most trusted batsmen of ODI cricket. His cool leadership style is considered by BCCI as ideal for the team. At the same time, Pant not only proved fitness, but also showed his old edge in both Test-Old.

In ODIs, he has so far scored 871 runs in 31 matches at an average of 33.5 and a strike rate of 106.22, including a century and 5 half -centuries. Pant’s aggressive batting and energy on the field suits him for an important role like vice -captain.
