The Bangalore Metropolitan Municipality (BBMP) in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, has prepared a budget of Rs 2.88 crore to feed stray dogs. The BBMP has decided to feed meat, chicken, egg and rice to stray dogs. This is the first time in India, when the administration of a city has prepared a separate scheme to feed stray dogs. The special thing is that the budget of this scheme is in crores. At the same time, stray dogs have been asked to feed chicken and eggs, while the common man does not have this food daily in the country.

The BBMP has issued a tender of Rs 2.88 crore for the event, which aims to provide food daily to stray dogs in eight administrative areas. About 600 to 700 dogs will be fed in every field. This menu includes meat, chicken and egg-rice, designed to ensure proper nutrition for the ever-increasing population of stray dogs in the city.

Animal Right Organization welcomed

The Animal Right Organization has widely welcomed the initiative and described it as a progressive step towards sensitive and responsible urban administration. They believe that this scheme can improve the health of stray animals. Along with this, it can help to curb the aggressive behavior of dogs caused by hunger and neglect.

People said- this waste of money

This announcement has also been criticized by a section of the people, which argues that the government’s attention is diverting. On social media and civic forums, some residents have expressed concern that at a time when many people are struggling to bear the cost of basic food, dogs seem to be allocated crores of rupees to serve biryani -like food.

P Chidambaram raised questions

The BBMP plans to feed 5,000 stray dogs from across the city daily. The Municipal Corporation will spend Rs 22 per dog for 367 grams of chicken rice. Tamil Nadu Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram questioned the need to feed stray dogs on the streets in a post on X. He wrote, “Is this true? There is no place on the streets for dogs. They should be transferred to the shelter sites where they can be fed, vaccinated and sterilized. They are very big for health and safety.”
