New Delhi: A couple in Bengaluru was in a soup after they posted a clip of their potted plants they were growing in their balcony. The netizens spotted a pot in which ganja saplings were also growing, a Times of India report said. The incident was reported from central business district area of Sadashivnagar.
After the cops came to know about the ganja plants being grown in a pot, the police quickly reached the spot and took the couple — 37-year-old Sagar Gurung and his wife Urmila Kumari — into custody. The couple had moved to Bengaluru from Sikkim around two years back. They were residing at MSR Nagar in Sadashivanagar. Sagar has an eatery business, and his wife is a homemaker.
Urmila, who watches videos and browses photos online in her free time, recently decided to become active on social media. Besides sharing her own photos and thoughts, she also created videos. One such video, which was posted on October 18,
showed nearly two dozen plants growing at her home. However, among this were two ganja saplings, which the netizens noticed.
What does the police FIR say
As per the police FIR, the cops raided the couple’s home on November 5 afternoon after receiving the basic information. The FIR added that in the beginning, the couple did not respond to our questions on the ganja saplings. The cops then inspected and found signs of plants uprooted from two pots. On being interrogated further, the couple admitted to growing ganja in them and showed us the dustbin where they had thrown them. The saplings weighed 54 grams, and the police seized them.
The cops suspect that the two had seen police at their doorstep and removed the saplings and thrown them into the dustbin so they are not caught. The police also believe that the couple grew ganja for commercial gains.
In addition to the saplings, police also confiscated Kumari’s phone, which she had used to post the video. She now faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for allegedly trying to cultivate ganja for sale.
