Bhupesh Baghel and his son challenged the validity of CBI-Ed investigations in Supreme Court

New Delhi: Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his son have challenged the validity of investigations being conducted by CBI and ED in the Supreme Court. The petition raised the question on what basis the CBI and ED got the right to investigate in Chhattisgarh, when the state government had already withdrawn their consensus.
On behalf of Bhupesh Baghel and his son, the investigation powers and jurisdiction of both central agencies have been objected to. The Supreme Court will hear this petition on Monday.
ED arrested Bhupesh Baghel’s son Chaitanya in July
In July 2025, the ED arrested Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Prior to this action, the ED raided his residence in Bhilai. The case was said to be related to the liquor scam case. The ED team reached several trains and was accompanied by CRPF personnel.
During that time, Bhupesh Baghel tweeted and said, “ED has arrived. Today is the last day of the assembly session. Today, the issue of trees being cut in Tamanar for Adani was to be raised. Saheb has sent ED to Bhilai Niwas.”
In April, CBI lodged FIR against Bhupesh Baghel
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered an FIR against Bhupesh Baghel in the Mahadev Betting App case. Former CM Baghel was made accused in this FIR of CBI. The FIR had 21 accused including Betting app promoters Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. Earlier, the CBI raided 60 locations of all the accused including Bhupesh Baghel across the country. The raids were conducted against many politicians, bureaucrats and police officers.
