Life lost in aircraft accident.
New Delhi: A painful accident occurred in Ahmedabad on 12 June. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani passed away in this accident. There were 242 people in this aircraft, out of which only one life could be saved. However, Vijay Rupani is not the first person who lost his life in the plane crash. The list of some top leaders and prominent personalities who lost his life in air accidents is as follows-
Homi Jahangir Bhabha (1966): India’s leading nuclear physicist Homi Jahangir Bhabha died on January 24, 1966 due to an Air India flight 101 crashed. The aircraft crashed into the Swiss Alps Mountains due to incorrect communication with Geneva air traffic control.
Sanjay Gandhi (1980): Sanjay Gandhi, son of Congress leader and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, died on 23 June 1980 in an air accident. Sanjay was flying an aircraft of the Delhi Flying Club near Safdarjung Airport and lost control of the aircraft while trying to do air acrobatics. He lost his life due to the crash of the aircraft.
Madhav Rao Scindia (2001): Senior Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia died on September 30, 2001 in a plane crash. He was in a ten -seat private aircraft to go to Kanpur which crashed near Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh due to bad weather. Scindia himself was a former Civil Aviation Minister.
GMC Balayogi (2002): Lok Sabha Speaker and Telugu Desam Party leader GMC Balayogi died in a helicopter crash on March 3, 2002. At the time of the accident, he was coming from Bhimavaram in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh when his helicopter crashed near Kaikur in Krishna district and fell into a pond.
Cyprian Sangma (2004): Meghalaya Rural Development Minister Cypian Sangma and nine others were going from Guwahati to Shillong on 22 September 2004 by Pawan Hans helicopter. Meanwhile, his helicopter crashed near Barapani Lake, just 20 km from the state capital, killing him.
KS Soumya (2004): South Indian actress KS Soumya, known as Soundarya, died in an air accident on 17 April 2004. At the time of the accident, the actress of the film ‘Suryavansham’ was going from Bangalore to Karimnagar with her brother.
OP Jindal and Surendra Singh (2005): Industrialist and Haryana Minister Om Prakash Jindal and Agriculture Minister Surendra Singh died in 2005 in a helicopter crash. His helicopter was going from Delhi to Chandigarh, when crashed in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
YS Reddy (2009): The then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhar Reddy (2009), known as YSR, died on 2 September 2009 in a helicopter accident. The accident occurred when his vine crashed in a dense Nallamala forest due to 430 helicopter bad weather.
Dorji Khandu (2011): The then Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Dorji Khandu and four others died on 30 April 2011 when the helicopter carrying him from Tawang to Itanagar crashed in the western Kamang district of the state.
CDS General Bipin Rawat (2021): India’s first chief defense president (CDS) General Bipin Rawat died on December 8, 2021 in a helicopter crash. The incident occurred near Kunnur in Tamil Nadu, when he was going from Sulur to Wellington with his wife and 11 others. (Input-PTI)
