American Defense Minister Pete Hegseth and counterpart Rajnath Singh.
Pentagon: A strong defense partnership has been announced between India and the US for the next 10 years. The agreement has been reached between Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth. It has agreed to finalize a new defense structure of 10 years to further strengthen defense and strategic relations between India and the US.
Pentagon announced
Pentagon announced this important defense partnership between India and the US on Wednesday. The Pentagon has announced this announcement a day after the telephone talks between Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Hegseth of India. The statement said, “Secretary Hegseth and Minister Rajnath Singh have agreed to settle the next 10 years of defense structure between the US-India in their next meeting this year.” According to the statement, the two sides discussed the need for the proposed major US defense sales and bilateral defense industrial cooperation to India.
Pentagon told India major defense partner
Pentagon said, “The US in South Asia prioritize India as its lead defense partner.” According to the Pentagon, the two leaders reviewed the “important progress” so far in the direction of defense goals set in a joint statement released by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2025. The statement without expanding said that the two leaders spoke on “the sale of proposed US defense equipment to India and the imperative of industrial partnership in the defense sector”.
What did Rajnath Singh talk to Hegseth?
During the conversation on Tuesday, Rajnath Singh requested Hegseth to speed up the supply of GE F404 engine for Tejas Lightly Fighter Aircraft (LCA). People acquainted with this conversation said that Singh also advocated finally finalizing the proposed agreement between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and American company Ge Aerospace for joint production in India. HAL could not be delivered on time to the Tejas Mark 1A aircraft for the Indian Air Force due to the delay in supply of F404 engines by Ge Aerospace.
Military relations strengthen with mutual cooperation
In this case, a statement issued by the Indian side said that Singh and Hegseth discussed extensive issues such as long-term cooperation, training, military exchange and expansion of industrial partnership in the defense sector. The statement also stated, “The two leaders have agreed to further speed this strategic and mutually beneficial partnership, including mutual operational capacity, integration of defense supply chains, sharing logistics, increase in joint military exercises and cooperation with uniform thinking countries.” (PTI)
