Big decision of Central Government, 3% increase in DA of central employees before Diwali.

New Delhi. Before Diwali, the Central Government has given a big gift to crores of employees and pensioners. The government has announced an increase in DA for central employees. The Modi Cabinet, in its meeting today on Wednesday, October 16, has officially approved a 3 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). After this increase of 3 percent, the DA received by the employees will now increase to 53 percent.

More than 1 crore central employees and pensioners are expected to benefit from this increase. Let us tell you that the DA increase is effective from July 1, 2024. Let us also tell you that the increase in dearness allowance of central employees is for the month of July to December. In such a situation, central employees will also get DA arrears for three months – July, August and September – in the October salary.

Actually, the Center gives dearness allowance to government employees, while DR is given to pensioners. Normally, DA and DR are increased twice a year – January and July. At present, more than one crore central government employees and pensioners are getting 50 percent dearness allowance. Earlier in the month of March, the government had announced to increase DA by 4 percent. In 2006, the Central Government revised the formula for calculating DA and DR for central employees and pensioners. On September 30, the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers had written a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressing concern over the delay in announcing the DA/DR increase. Along with this, let us also tell you that DA of central government employees is decided on the basis of their basic salary.
