New Delhi. The Supreme Court has given an important decision saying that a person holding a driving license of Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) can now drive light transport vehicles weighing up to 7500 kg. This decision is a news of great relief for both insurance companies and drivers. A five-member Constitution bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has given the verdict on this.

Insurance companies had long been raising questions about whether LMV license holders were eligible to drive transport vehicles. His argument was that both require separate licenses. There were many controversies on this issue and cases were also filed in the courts.

After a long hearing on this matter, the Supreme Court has ruled that LMV license holders can drive light transport vehicles weighing up to 7500 kg. With this decision, insurance companies will no longer be able to deny claims in such cases. The government has also welcomed this decision. The Central Government will give legal form to this decision by amending the Motor Vehicles Act in the winter session.

After this decision, drivers will no longer need to obtain a separate license for their transport vehicle. Insurance companies will no longer need to dispute this issue.
