The GST network said on Saturday that from the beginning of the July tax period, GST taxpayers will not be able to file monthly and annual GST returns after 3 years from the due date of the original filing. The tax period of July 2025 means that taxpayers will file monthly returns in August this year. In a consultation, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) said that at the end of three years from the due date of taxpayer filing, GSTR-3B, GSTR-4, GSTR-5, GSTR-5A, GSTR-5A, GSTR-6, GSTR-7, GSTR-7, GSTR-8 and GSTR-9 will not be filed. The amendments to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act in relation to the deadline were impressed through the Finance Act, 2023.
File your GST return as soon as possible
Thus, GST outward supply returns will be timed by returns related to payment of liability, annual returns and taxes at source. The consultation issued by GSTN states that the filing of returns will be banned after the end of three years. The said ban will be implemented on the GST portal from July, 2025 tax period. This advised taxpayers that if they have not filed GST returns till now, they should match their records and file their GST returns as soon as possible. Earlier in October, the GST Network (GSTN) warned taxpayers that the said provision of tax ban would be implemented in early 2025.
Big bounce in GST collection

The GST collection remained above the figure of two lakh crore rupees in the second consecutive month in May. The gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection increased by 16.4 percent to more than Rs 2.01 lakh crore in May. The GST collection reached a high level of Rs 2.37 lakh crore in April. In May, 2024, the collection was Rs 1,72,739 crore. In May, 2025, gross revenue increased by 13.7 percent to about Rs 1.50 lakh crore due to domestic transactions, while GST revenue increased by 25.2 percent to Rs 51,266 crore from imports. In May, 2025, the total gross GST revenue was Rs 2,01,050 crore.
