• Patna. Bihar has once again won the ‘Agriculture Leadership Award 2025’, making its own identity in the field of agriculture and rural development. The award has been given to Bihar to strengthen the rural economy through rapid progress in inland fisheries (inland fisheries), visionary leadership and permanent hydrian model.
  • This prestigious honor is given to those states of the country who bring creative changes in agriculture, fisheries, and innovation and effective implementation in rural areas. Bihar received the award during the 16th Agriculture Leadership Conclave 2025 held in New Delhi.
  • Honor and appreciation of state achievements
  • This award from Bihar, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Dr. N. Vijayalakshmi received. They said, “This honor is the result of the devoted efforts of millions of fisheries, departmental officers and government of Bihar. It shows that if the policy is correct and the implementation is strong, self -sufficiency is possible in any field.”
  • Changing picture: from imports to self -sufficiency
  • There was a time when Bihar had to depend on other states for the fish of its need. But today the picture has completely changed. The state is now not only fulfilling its internal demand, but also exporting fish to other states. This change has been possible due to planned efforts and transporting modern technology to rural levels.
  • Foundation of change: Government plans and farmers support
  • The Bihar government adopted the overall development policy by linking fisheries to agriculture. This includes mainly:
  • Technical training and guidance
  • Modern equipment facilities
  • Production based grant
  • Protection and expansion of aquatic resources
  • Additionally, the department also ensured artificial ponds, polytank systems, high quality seeds and dietary supply.
  • 2024-25: Production more than target
  • In the financial year 2024-25, the state achieved a target of 101% of fish production and produced a record of 9.5 lakh metric tonnes of fish. This achievement is the result of a balanced use of climate, resources and technology. This strengthened the rural economy of the state and thousands of families got permanent employment.
  • Honor ceremony and national recognition
  • The honor ceremony was attended by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, former Chief Justice of India and Chairman of the Award Committee Justice P. Sathshivam. All appreciated Bihar’s efforts and described it as an example for other states.
