The Election Commission has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court regarding the special intensive revision released in Bihar. This affidavit has defended SIR and arguments in support of it. The Election Commission has stated in its affidavit that more than 90 percent of the voters have filled enrollment forms under the Special Intensive Revision Campaign. The Commission said that the purpose of this campaign is to ensure that no voter is left out of the list. Especially poor, deprived and marginalized communities have been given priority.

Why voter card is not being made through Aadhaar card

The Election Commission defended to keep Aadhaar out of the document list in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, saying that the Aadhaar card was not included in the list of 11 documents, as it does not help prove the eligibility of the voter under Article 326 of the Constitution of India.

List of documents not final

The Election Commission has also clarified in the affidavit that the list of documents that is necessary to include the name in the merit list is indicative. This list is not final. In such a situation, other documents can also be valid if needed. However, no example of this has been revealed so far, where someone’s name has been added to the voter list based on any other document.

Participation of political parties increased

The Election Commission said that this is the first time that all major political parties have participated in such a large number of participation and more than 1.5 lakh booth level agents have been deployed. These agents are working closely with booth level officials.

Trying to increase people’s trust on voter list

The Election Commission has said in the affidavit that this survey has been started after concerns raised by political parties. Its purpose is to restore public confidence in the election process and voter list.
