Amid allegations in disturbances in the voter list of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, BJP’s head Amit Malviya on Wednesday claimed that Sonia Gandhi’s name joined India’s voter list twice when she was not even an Indian citizen.
At the same time, BJP MP Anurag Thakur held a press conference that how 47 voters have been registered at the same house in Rae Bareli, Rahul and Sonia never saw these names. They said,
The BJP has made this claim when Rahul and the opposition are accusing the Election Commission (EC) and BJP of disturbances in the voter list and theft. The Congress is constantly claiming that EC has helped the BJP win elections and many fake names have been added to the voter list.
Malaviya said- Sonia’s name added 2 times
Malaviya wrote on X, ‘The whole matter is an example of a clear violation of the electoral law. Perhaps this is the reason why Rahul Gandhi also remains in favor of legalizing such voters who are disqualified or illegal and oppose the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Name added for the first time in 1980: Sonia’s name was first added to the voter list in 1980. She was a citizen of Italy at that time. The Gandhi family then lived at the government residence of 1, Safdarjung Road, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At that time, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi were named at this address. But on 1 January 1980, the voters list of New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency was amended, in which Sonia Gandhi’s name was added to the polling station 145 at serial number 388.
The second time the name was added in 1983: After the protest in 1982, his name was removed from the list and in 1983 his name was re -added to Serial No. 236 in Polling Station 140. The problem was that the qualification date for this revised list was 1 January 1983, while Sonia Gandhi got Indian citizenship on 30 April 1983. That is, she was not an Indian citizen even at that time.
Malaviya also raised the question that why Sonia Gandhi took Indian citizenship only after 15 years of marriage to Rajiv Gandhi. He said that the same person’s name is twice without citizenship, it is a serious matter of electoral malpractice.
