Visakhapatnam, 16 November (HS). In the upcoming Hockey India League (HIL), Vizag men’s team Gonasika has appointed Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt as the brand ambassador of the team in the first season. Sports stalwarts, head coach Jagbir Singh and mentor M.M. The Somaya-led side will begin their HIL campaign with their clash against Delhi SG Pipers at the prestigious Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on December 28.
Sanjay Dutt, one of Bollywood’s most iconic actors, known for his roles in films like ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Vaastaav’, brings his star power and passion for the game to the team. His participation will undoubtedly attract significant attention and support towards the league, thereby enhancing the reputation of Gonasika and the Hockey India League.

It is a privilege for me to support this fantastic team as they begin their journey in the Hockey India League. Gonasika had a great team in the HIL auction last month. Manpreet and Mandeep are the most important Indian players in this team, along with former Indian men’s hockey team players Birendra Lakra, S.V. Sunil, S.L. Uthappa and Nikin Thimayya are also included in this team. They also have highly respected young Indian players like Arijit Singh Hundal and Vishnukant Singh.
The squad includes foreign players including FIH Rising Star of the Year 2022 Timothy Clement, Australian Timothy Howard and a strong contingent from Great Britain including Oliver Payne, Jack Waller, Jacob Draper, Lee Morton and Struan Walker.
