Bomb threats are troubling Indian airlines cost of these hoax calls are in crores says a report
Hoax Calls: These days, incidents of rumor spreading about bombs in planes have increased rapidly. This creates chaos and passengers including airlines have to face problems. But its economic aspect is even more back-breaking. The airline has to suffer a loss of crores of rupees on every such rumor. On Saturday, about 30 flights received bomb threats. These include Vistara, Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, Star Air and Alliance Air. So far this week, a total of 70 flights have been disrupted due to such threats.
Fuel worth Rs 1 crore had to be thrown away for safe landing
On Friday, a bomb threat was also received on the international flight of Tata Group’s airline Vistara on social media. It landed at Frankfurt Airport. After this its safety check was done. After such threats, all airlines have to follow security protocols. This not only takes time but also costs a lot of money. Recently, a flight going from Mumbai to New York had to be brought to Delhi. There were about 200 passengers and 130 tons of ATF in this flight. According to the Times of India report, the pilot had to dump about 100 tonnes of fuel for a safe landing. Its price is around Rs 1 crore.
Air India had to suffer a loss of Rs 20 crore
Apart from this, when such a threat comes, landing has to be done nearby. Accommodation facilities have to be provided to the passengers. The aircraft crew is replaced. All these things cost around Rs 3 crore. A similar case happened with Air India on 15 October. His Boeing 777 flight going from Delhi to Chicago had to land in Canada. 200 passengers remained stranded there for about 4 days. Air India had to take the help of Canadian Air Force planes. The daily fare for a Boeing 777 aircraft ranges between 17 to 20 thousand dollars. In such a situation, you can understand the burden of expenses of diverting or canceling it. The airline suffered a loss of about Rs 20 crore due to this one incident.
Strict action will be taken including putting in no fly list
Now the government is going to take strict steps to curb such incidents. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has said that we are serious about such incidents. We are studying international guidelines. Apart from putting those spreading such rumors in the no-fly list, many other steps can also be taken. Rammohan Naidu said that we will have to make strict rules to save the airlines and aviation industry which are suffering losses due to such rumours.
