Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned from the post for health reasons. Dhankhar has given his health the reason for his resignation in the resigning letter of his 8 paragraphs. He has thanked His Excellency the President, Prime Minister and other cabinet ministers for cooperation in the work. Jagdeep Dhankhar has thanked for the cooperation of MPs for cooperation in running the House. It has been written in his resignation that he learned many values of democracy as Chairman and Vice President of Rajya Sabha. Participating in the journey of democracy of India is a unique experience in itself. Dhankhar said that he is proud to be a partner of India’s unprecedented development and globally.

Jagdeep Dhankhar, a Jat leader and noted lawyer who has a relationship with Rajasthan, became the 14th Vice President of the country and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on 11 August 2022. Dhankhar defeated Margaret Alva, who came to the fray on behalf of the opposition in the election. He was the Governor of West Bengal before becoming Vice President. However, as a governor, he continued to face a sharp tinge from the Mamata Banerjee government of the state and due to this he was also in the headlines.

Born in the Jat family of Jhunjhunu

Dhankhar was born on 18 May 1951 in a Jat family in Kithana village of Jhunjhunu district. His father’s name was Gokal Chand and mother’s name was Kesari Devi. He completed his schooling from the prestigious Sainik School in Chittorgarh. He did primary level studies from Kithana Government School. Middle school education was received from Ghardhana Government School. He came to Jaipur for high -level education. He then completed his BSc and then LLB degree from Rajasthan University.

Became 21st Governor of West Bengal in 2019

Dhankhar married Sudesh Dhankhar in the year 1979 and has a daughter named Wish. In the year 1990, Dhankar was named Senior Advocate on behalf of Rajasthan High Court. Dhankar remained the most senior nominated Senior Advocate in the state until the 21st Governor of West Bengal was sworn in on 30 July 2019.

Leading role in providing reservation to Jats

From the year 1990, he started practicing in the Supreme Court. He has also been the President of Rajasthan High Court Bar Association. He is also known for the leading role of providing reservation to Jats in Rajasthan.

Dhankar’s political journey-

  • Dhankhar first started the political career with the Janata Dal and then came to the Congress.
  • In the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, he was elected from Jhunjhunu seat on Janata Dal ticket.
  • In 1991, he joined the Congress and then contested from Ajmer seat in the Lok Sabha elections, but lost.
  • 2 years later, in 1993, he was elected MLA from Kishangarh Assembly seat in Rajasthan.
  • In the 1998 general election, Jhunjhunu tried his luck again in the Lok Sabha seat but finished third.
  • He joined BJP in the year 2003. He was associated with the party’s campaign committee for the 2008 assembly elections.
  • In 2016, he was the head of the BJP’s law and legal affairs department.
  • Nearly 3 years later, he was made the Governor of West Bengal.
  • In 2022, he held the post of Vice President of the country.

Jagdeep Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal before becoming Vice-President. Jagdeep Dhankhar has been active in many roles from advocating in the Supreme Court to politics. He was a member of Parliament and from 1990 to 1991, for about 6 months, he was also the Minister of State for the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in Chandrashekhar’s government. Before joining the central politics, Jagdeep Dhankhar was active in Rajasthan politics and was an MLA from Kishangarh seat from 1993 to 1998.
