In the second Test match against Zimbabwe, South African captain Vian Mulder scored an unbeaten innings of 367 runs. He had a chance to break Brian Lara’s record of 400 runs but did not do so and declared Lara’s record just 34 runs first innings. Many people were surprised at his decision.

Mulder now told that he had a little conversation with Lara after this innings. During this time, Lara also said that records are for breaking and hoped that if the Mulders ever come in such a situation, they will break this record. Mulder said on Supersport, “I spoke a little with Brian Lara. He told me that I am creating my own legacy and I should have tried for it (for a record of 400 runs). He said that the records are to break and they wish that if I come to that position again, I scored more than me.”

He also revealed that South Africa’s head coach Shukri Conrad also said that the veterans should keep such memorable records. However, former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle feels that the Mulder may have been nervous and he made a mistake by not taking advantage of the opportunity he had told the opportunity to be found once in life.

Gayle said on TalkSport, “If I had a chance to score 400 runs, I would have scored 400 runs. It would not have happened often when you will be able to score a triple century again. Whenever you get such a chance, you try to take full advantage of it. If you want to be a veteran, how will you become a veteran?

Let us know that the next tour of South Africa is the Zimbabwe T20-series between Zimbabwe and New Zealand. The tournament will start from the first match between Zimbabwe and South Africa in Harare on 14 July.
