India-Canada Row- India expressed objection to Canada’s action

‘Australia Today’ channel was banned in Canada today. The Canadian government took this decision just after the press conference of Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “An important diaspora outlet has been banned from viewers in Canada. This happened just hours after the press conference of Penny Wong and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Such actions expose Canada’s hypocrisy towards freedom of expression. You must have seen that the External Affairs Minister talked about three things in his media programs. Firstly, Canada made allegations without any specific evidence and secondly, they Canada Highlighted the surveillance of Indian diplomats taking place in India, which he described as unacceptable. The third thing he highlighted was the political space that has been given to anti-India elements in Canada. So you can draw your own conclusion from this as to why Australia Today channel was blocked by Canada.”

‘It is unacceptable to keep Indian diplomats under surveillance’

The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that keeping Indian diplomats in Canada under surveillance is completely unacceptable.

Randhir Jaiswal says, “We had asked our diplomats to provide security where the consular camp was to be held. Security was not provided by the Canadian side. Over the last year or more we have seen Indian diplomats being attacked, threatened and harassed. Indian diplomats are being kept under surveillance, which is completely unacceptable. “We have talked about it and raised this matter very strongly with the Canadian side.”
