Canal burst again 24 hours after repairing, farmers angry
Suture. The right bank canal of Sanjay Sarovar Bhimgarh Dam built on Wainganga River could not survive even 24 hours of repair. Due to release of water in the canal, the canal burst for the second time from the same place. The farmers got enraged when the canal burst and created a ruckus in front of the officers. A warning letter has also been handed over to the public representatives on the spot.
Sowing of Rabi crops is about to start, in view of which water was released into the canals from Sanjay Sarovar Dam located in Bhimgarh on 15th November. Before releasing the water, maintenance work is done on a large scale by the department, but there was negligence and omission in this maintenance work.
Just two days after the release of water, the Bhimgarh right bank main canal burst near Jamuntola (Kanhiwada), after which the officials hurriedly closed the gates of the dam, stopped the water and started the repair work of the canal. The canal repair work was completed on Tuesday itself by tying a sack on the damaged portion and water was released into the canal again. On Wednesday morning the canal burst again from the same place. Now the canal has to be closed again for repairs.
As soon as they got information about the canal bursting for the second time, hundreds of farmers reached the spot. As soon as the officials arrived, they had to face the anger of the farmers because the canal repair work was not done properly. Regional public representatives and District Panchayat members also reached. He also expressed his displeasure with the officials regarding the quality of work.
The public representatives along with the farmers submitted a memorandum to the officials giving a warning. District Panchayat member Rajni Thakur, farmers Dhansingh Thakur, Jitesh Thakur and others say that there is a demand that the canal should be repaired immediately. This kind of situation should not be created again. Also, strict action has been demanded against irresponsible officials.
