Case is made against Sonia-Rahul: ED

The fourth hearing was held in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today in the National Herald Money Laundering case related to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The ED told the court that, at first sight, a case is made against Sonia and Rahul. Both have earned Rs 142 crore from the income of crime.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the ED, said that the accused were enjoying the income of the crime until the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized assets worth Rs 751.9 crore associated with the National Herald in November 2023.

After hearing the arguments from the ED, the court said that, the case will be heard daily from July 2 to 8. The National Herald Case has been going on since 2012, when BJP leader Subramanian Swamy complained against Sonia, Rahul and people associated with their allies.

May 8: The court had said- Justice Vishal Gogne, after hearing the accused’s side, said that after hearing the arguments of ED, notices have been sent to all the accused as per the previous order. But the notice was sent to them on 8 May, so they cannot proceed to the action without listening to their side. His side will be heard first on 21 and 22 May.
May 2: The court had said- The right to hear is impartured in a fair hearing, the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi gave notice to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. The second hearing of the case was held in the court. Special Judge Vishal Gogne said, the right to hear the matter at any level kills the fair hearing.

On April 25, the court said- Some documents are missing in the charge sheet, filing the court refused to issue notice to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi. It was said that we cannot issue notice without listening to the side of the accused. Said, ‘Some documents are also missing in the ED charge sheet. Enter those documents. Will then decide on issuing the notice.
