What is the National Herald case?

The National Herald Case is a controversial legal case, related to the National Herald newspaper and its core company Associated Journal Limited (AJL). The case came into the limelight in 2012 when BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a complaint against Congress leaders, especially Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in a Delhi court. He is accused of wrongly acquired AJL properties through Young Indian Private Limited (Yil).

Let us know that the National Herald newspaper was founded in 1938 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, which was published by AJL. This company used to take out the newspaper in English, National Herald in Hindi, Navjivan in Hindi and Qaumi Awaaz in Urdu. In 2008, the publication of the newspaper stopped due to financial deficit.

The main dispute in the National Herald case is about transfer of AJL properties to Young Indian and loan given by the Congress. The matter is complicated from both legal and political perspectives, in which both sides are giving their respective arguments.
