Causes of death of elephants in Bandhavgarh revealed, forensic report shows acid found in Kodo millet, death occurred due to eating it.
Palpal correspondent, Bhopal/Bandhavgarh. A big revelation has come to light in the case of death of 10 elephants in Bandhavgarh National Park located in Umaria district of MP. Elephants have died due to cyclopiazonic acid found in Kodo millet. According to forensic report, cyclopiazonic acid has been found in Kodo millet. Elephants have died due to eating this.
According to senior forest department officials, according to the toxicological report of IVRI (Indian Veterinary Research Institute), Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, the elephants have consumed large quantities of spoiled Kodo plants/grains. An advisory has also been issued in the report to take care in the surrounding areas. Congress is already attacking the state government and Forest Minister Ramniwas Rawat over the death of elephants. Former CM Kamal Nath has demanded a CBI inquiry into this matter.
State Congress President Jitu Patwari alleges that the elephants have been poisoned. Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar has raised questions on the role of the resort operators of the area. The team from Delhi is camping in Bandhavgarh to investigate the death of elephants. Team members are closely investigating the cause of the incident. Kamal Nath wrote on social media This is a matter of utmost concern.
