For the census to be held in 2026 and 2027, the government has decided to seek the help of web portal and mobile app. Through these platforms, citizens themselves will be able to convey their information to the government. People will be able to calculate themselves with this facility. This will speed up the census process. This web portal will be available for both phases of the National Census. Officials said on Monday that in the country’s first digital census, the representatives of the government will collect citizens data using the app on Android and Apple mobile phones.

This will be the first time in the country, when citizens will get a chance to fill the information themselves through a special web portal. This portal will be available for both stages of census- house listing and housing census (HLO) and population calculation. “Digital census initiative is a transformative step towards modernizing the census process. For the first time, digital technology will be used to collect data and sending it electronically to the central server. This will make the census data collected quickly,” an official said.

Strict measures for server safety

During the census, very stringent data security measures will be implemented to collect data, transfer data and store it safely. The HLO will start from April 1, 2026 and then the second phase process will begin on February 1, 2027, in which population will be calculated. The castes of members of the house will be counted in the upcoming census. Census 2027 will begin at 12 pm on October 1, 2026 for snow-covered inaccessible areas of Union Territory Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand. At the same time, in the plains, it will start on March 1, 2027 from 12 noon.

34 lakh people will be trained

It will be 16th after the introduction of the census in the country and the eighth census after independence. Notification was issued on 16 June for this. The General Registrar of India has arranged for three levels of focused and requirement based training for national instructor, master instructor and field instructor. For this broader exercise, field instructors will train around 34 lakh calculators and supervisors. The General Registrar of India has asked the states and union territories to make any proposed changes in the boundaries of administrative units before 31 December. The changes by 31 December will be considered final for the census.

Census will start from February 1 from 2027

In a letter to all states and union territories, the General Registrar of India and Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan had said that all villages and cities are divided into uniform calculations blocks for census and appointed for each block. This is said so that any lapse or repetition can be avoided during the population calculation.
