Center of excellence will be created for R&D in green hydrogen sector
New Delhi, 07 November (Hindustan Reporter). Government of India has invited proposals (CFP) for setting up Centers of Excellence (CoE) under the Research & Development (R&D) scheme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The objective of setting up world-class Centers of Excellence for Green Hydrogen in India is to promote innovation, sustainability and energy self-reliance in the long term. These Centers of Excellence will help accelerate low carbon economy through green hydrogen production, storage and utilization technologies.
These centers will act as focal points for cutting-edge research, skill development and knowledge dissemination. These centers will also facilitate collaboration between stakeholders including industry, academia and government to promote innovations in green hydrogen technologies, thereby improving process efficiency and developing new products. These centers will leverage expertise and resources to promote a complete green hydrogen eco system in the country.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had earlier on March 15, 2024 issued guidelines for the implementation of the Research and Development Scheme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Public and private entities including research institutes, universities will partner to submit proposals under this CFP. The government has allocated Rs 100 crore to set up such centers under the Green Hydrogen Mission.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched on 04 January 2023, which is estimated to cost Rs 19,744 crore by 2029-30. This will contribute to India’s goal of becoming self-reliant through clean energy and will serve as a catalyst for global clean energy. This mission will reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the economy and also reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports. The National Green Hydrogen Mission will enable India to lead the field of green hydrogen technology.
