Central government sent notice to Apple company, CERT-IN started investigation

iPhone Hack: IT Ministry sources have said that central online security agency CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) will investigate the opposition’s claim of iPhone “hacking” attempts. CERT-In is the national agency responsible for responding to cyber security threats such as hacking and phishing.

Several opposition leaders, including Mahua Moitra, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Raghav Chadha, Shashi Tharoor, Pawan Khera and Sitaram Yechury, on Tuesday claimed that they had received Apple alerts warning of state-sponsored hacking of their iPhones.

After receiving warnings related to hacking on the phones of opposition leaders, the government has now started investigating the matter. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (IT) has sent a notice in this regard to iPhone maker Apple. IT Secretary S Krishnan said that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) is investigating the matter and has issued a notice to Apple. Notice has been sent.

What is the matter?

On October 31, many opposition leaders had received warning messages on their iPhones. In this, it was said that government sponsored attackers were trying to hack their phone. Many opposition leaders shared the screenshot of this warning and alleged that the Modi government has tried to hack their phone. The government has now decided to investigate the matter.

Which leaders had received the warning?

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had received this warning. Some people working in Rahul Gandhi’s office had also received the warning. Some journalists have also said that they received such warnings.

Mahua had demanded investigation from Lok Sabha Speaker

Mahua had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding this matter. He had termed the case as a serious violation of privacy and a major attack on fundamental rights and had demanded an investigation. Mahua had said, “We are representatives of the Parliament of India and illegal surveillance using software available by the government is part of our great democracy.” And it is an attack on fundamental rights.” Mahua had also raised the Pegasus issue in the letter.

The government had said about investigation

(IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had talked about investigating the matter. He had said, “Some MPs and other citizens have raised the issue that they have received an alert from Apple. I want to make it clear to them that the government is serious about this and we will go to the root of it. We have ordered an investigation into it.”Vaishnav had accused the opposition leaders of playing politics of distraction.
