‘Check the engine switch fuel system of all aircraft’, DGCA’s important order
It is necessary to check the fuel control switch of all Boeing aircraft.
Following the AAIB report, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India (DGCA) has taken a big decision. DGCA has said that investigation of all flights to be conducted in the country will be mandatory. The engine switch fuel system of the aircraft will be examined. Along with this, it has also been said that the investigation of all aircraft should be completed by July 21.
Why did DGCA give these instructions?
Let us know that this step is being taken after the preliminary report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on the Air India Plain Crash held in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The DGCA has asked airline companies to examine the fuel switch locking system of Boeing 787, 737 aircraft. The DGCA has said that airline companies should complete the investigation of the fuel switch locking system of Boeing 787, 737 aircraft by 21 July.
Which aircraft are applicable to DGCA?
- Boeing 717-200
- 737 Series (700, 700C, 800, 900er, 737-8, 737-9)
- 747 Series (400, 400D, 400F, 8, 8F)
- 757 Series (200, 200CB, 200PF, 300)
- 767 Series (200, 300, 300f, 400er, 2C)
- 787 Series (8, 9, 10)
- MD-11 and MD-11F
- MD-90-30
What came in Aaib’s report?
The AAIB report has revealed that both fuel control switches that control the fuel supply in both engines of the crashed aircraft had moved from ‘Run’ to ‘Cutoff’ ‘position (off from current). It is possible that the plane has been crashed by it.
The DGCA has said that this step has been taken to ensure the safety of passengers. According to some international reports, the fuel switch locking system of these aircraft has led to a technical flaw, which can threaten safety.
