New Delhi: The Election Commission rejected the claim of Union Minister P. Chidambaram on Sunday as wrong after adding the names of 6.5 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu and said that it is absurd to connect the special intense revision (SIR) released in Bihar with Tamil Nadu, where SIR has not been started yet. Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram posted on the social media platform ‘X’ that migrant laborers are being registered as voters in Tamil Nadu, which is a serious intervention in the right to choose the government of their choice by the people of the southern state.

What did Chidambaram say?

Chidambaram said, “On the one hand there is a danger of depriving 65 lakh voters in Bihar, on the other hand, the news of 6.5 lakh people ‘adding’ as voters in Tamil Nadu on the other hand is anxious and clearly illegal.” He said, “He said,” Every Indian has the right to live and work in any state, where he has a permanent house, how many people have the names of Bihar, whose name is the name of Bihar. I am, should be excluded, because they ‘permanently flee’ from the state? ‘

Chidambaram said, “To be registered as a voter, a person must have a certain and permanent legal house. The migrant laborer is such a house in Bihar (or any other state). How can he be registered as a voter in Tamil Nadu? “He said that if the family of the migrant laborer is a permanent house in Bihar and lives in Bihar, how can the migrant laborer be considered” permanently settled “in Tamil Nadu? Chidambaram alleged that the Election Commission is “misusing its powers and trying to change the electoral character and nature of the states. ”

What did the Election Commission respond?

The Election Commission said in a Fact Finding Post on ‘X’ that such statements are misleading and unfounded. He said that according to Article 19 (1) (E), all citizens have the right to live and settle in any part of the region of India. The Commission said that according to Section 19 (B) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, every person who is a general resident of a constituency is entitled to be registered in the voter list of that constituency. The Commission said that it is on voters to come forward and be registered in the constituency for which they are eligible. The Commission clarified, “Therefore, originally belonging to Tamil Nadu, but a person living in Delhi is entitled to be registered as a voter in Delhi. Similarly, originally belonging to Bihar, but generally a person living in Chennai, is entitled to be registered as a voter in Chennai. ”

The Election Commission said that political leaders have no “need” to “spread wrong information” regarding the SIR process being conducted by the Election Commission at the national level. The Commission said, “It has come to the notice of elections that such information is being deliberately spread in the media with the aim of obstructing this process. As far as permanently transferred from Bihar to other states and the generally living voters in those states, the exact figures will be known only after the completion of the SIR process. The Commission said that voters should come forward and register in the constituency where they are eligible. The Commission said, “However, it has been observed that some false figures are being spread about the registration of 6.5 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu. The SIR in Tamil Nadu has not been started yet. Therefore, it is absurd to connect the SIR process in Bihar with Tamil Nadu. (input language)
