Islamabad: Pakistan and Taliban have been fighting for a long time, but China is now engaged in making friendship between them. In this episode, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi shared a platform on Wednesday with the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Afghanistan in Kabul. Wang Yi attended an important tripartite meeting with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister in the capital Kabul.
Why China is making Taliban friendship with Pakistan
The purpose of organizing this meeting of China is to strengthen cooperation between the three countries and to discuss measures to deal with regional security challenges. At the same time, he wants to expand its CPEC plan through Afghanistan by improving relations between Pakistan and Taliban. When Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Isaac Dar reached Kabul, he was welcomed by Afghanistan Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Naeem.
Pakistan happy with trilateral meeting
Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a statement regarding this meeting, saying, “This tripartite talks will discuss important issues like business, regional contact, anti-terrorism strategies and mutual cooperation.” On this occasion, Isaac Dar will also negotiate bilateral matters with the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan. The purpose of these dialogues is to strengthen Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
Earlier trilateral talks in Beijing
It is worth noting that earlier one such tripartite meeting was held in Beijing in May, in which Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to increase the diplomatic relations to the ambassador level. In that meeting, the three countries discussed the possibilities of expanding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan and it was maintained in-principle.
CPEC and India’s objection
An important aspect of this meeting is about the expansion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC is an important part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which connects China’s Xinjiang province to the Gwadar port of Pakistan. Now its expansion is being planned till Afghanistan. However, India has been strongly opposing the project, as this corridor passes through Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK). India says that this is a violation of its sovereignty and has also raised the issue continuously on international forums. India opposes not only CPEC but also overall China’s belt and road project.
