America’s Foreign Minister Marco Rubio
Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has made a big announcement on Wednesday. Rubio has said that America will start canceling the visas of some Chinese students. These will include Chinese students associated with the Chinese Communist Party or studying in sensitive areas. Rubio said on the social media platform ‘X’ that the government will strictly cancel the visas of Chinese students. China is second after India in terms of students coming from outside in America.
Increased confusion among foreign students
Chinese students had more than 270,000 in the academic year of 2023-2024, which was about a quarter of all foreign students in the US. Rubio on Tuesday stopped organizing new visa interviews for international students as the department is preparing guidelines for more investigation of their activities on social media. This has increased confusion among foreign students.
The trust of the students raised from the system
Vladislav Plaiyaka, a student of Visconsin-Oushkosh University, was planning to go to Poland to meet his mother and renew his visa, but he does not know when it would be possible now because visa renewal facilities are suspended. Playaka said, “I don’t think I have full faith in the system at this time.”
Trump’s stance is strict in Harvard case
Recently, the Trump administration tried to stop the enrollment of international students at Harvard University, which the court has currently stopped. Trump had said that the number of foreign students in Harvard should be limited to 15 percent where currently the number of foreign students is more than one fourth. He had said, “I want foreign students to love our country.”
