Taipei: In Taiwan’s Parliament, 20 percent of MPs are supporters of China. But now the people of Taiwan are not tolerated. Therefore, on Saturday, Taiwan is voting under an important referendum, in which it is being decided whether the 24 MPs of Parliament should be removed who are considered pro -China. All these MPs are from the main opposition party Nationalist Party (KMT). This process can affect the balance of power in the Parliament of the country.
The ruling party is getting voting
This move to hold a referendum has been taken by supporters of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which is in favor of Taiwan’s independence. DPP won the presidential election last year, but could not get a clear majority in Parliament. At the same time, KMT and Taiwan People’s Party have gained majority in the legislature.
Dissatisfaction against KMT in public increased
There has been an increase in dissatisfaction against KMT in one section of the public, because they stopped important bills like defense budget in Parliament and passed some controversial laws that limit the powers of the executive. These legislations are considered to be in the interest of Beijing, which considers Taiwan as its territory. KMT critics say that these strategies of the opposition are a threat to Taiwan’s democratic process and national security. This is the reason that the “recall election” campaign has been launched against these MPs.
How many votes can be canceled, membership of pro -China MPs
This referendum is considered to be the biggest recall effort in the history of Taiwan. Additionally, on August 23, seven more MPs of KMT may have to face a similar process. If at least 25% of the registered voters in the recall voting vote in favor of removal and this number is more than the voters in opposition, then the membership of MPs will be canceled. After this, by -elections will be held in vacant seats, in which KMT can field its candidates again. This development may have a far -reaching impact on Taiwan’s political scenario and its relations with China. (AP)
