Cloudburst and flood fear in Himachal Pradesh, 325 roads closed for traffic

After the latest incidents of cloudburst and sudden floods in Himachal Pradesh, several bridges were swept away in Shimla and Lahaul and Spiti districts, while more than 300 roads including two national highways had to be closed for traffic. Officials said a police post was washed away in the fresh floods in the Ganvi Valley, while a bus stand and nearby shops were damaged after heavy rains in Shimla district. He said that two bridges were washed away in these incidents, due to which the contact between the codes and panchayats of the district has been cut. Officials said that no casualties have been reported so far. He said that two more bridges were swept away due to sudden floods due to cloudburst in Karpat, Changut and Udgos Nala of the tribal Lahaul and Spiti district.

People sent to safe place

Officials said that in view of the threat to Karpat village, the people there have been sent to safe places. Local resident Ranjit Lahuli said that about ten bighas of agricultural land has been completely ruined and the district administration is doing relief work. Floods are also reported in Kurpon Khad (Jaan) of Kullu district. The local administration has advised people to stay away from areas around Kurpon Khad and Bagipul-Nimmand. A total of 325 roads including two national highways have to be closed for traffic due to rain in Himachal Pradesh.

Many roads closed

According to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), the roads closed for the movement of vehicles on Wednesday morning include the Aut-Sainge road, which is part of the National Highway-305, and the road from Khab to Gramfu (National Highway-505). He said that out of the closed roads, 179 roads are from Mandi district and 71 are from nearby Kullu district. Officials said that on Wednesday morning, due to falling a tree on the circular (Cart Road) near Tolland, the children going to the school and people going through the bus faced inconvenience and had to go on foot to their destination.

A loss of Rs 2031 crore so far due to monsoon

Officials said on Wednesday that since the onset of monsoon on 20 June, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 2031 crore so far. He said that 126 people have died in various rain related incidents while 36 are still missing. Officials said that 63 sudden flood incidents, 31 cloudbursts and 57 big landslides have occurred during the monsoon this year in Himachal Pradesh.
