New Delhi, October 17 (IANS). After the recent allegations made by Canada against Indian diplomats, politics in the country has intensified. Meanwhile, former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir S.P. Vaid has appealed to the opposition to work with the government to give the message of unity of the country.
S.P. Vaid said in a statement on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders should together give a message of unity with the government. He said, “You see for yourself what kind of message is being given by the opposition and other Congress leaders. At this time we must come together and respond to Canada.”
He said that Canada is doing politics by giving shelter to Khalistani terrorists in its country for a few votes and is trying to defame India.
The former DGP said, “We have to unite against the mischievous, false and defamatory campaign being run against India under the leadership of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. I want to say to the opposition leaders of the country that you become an Indian and fight for your Stand with the country.”
Relations between India and Canada soured when Prime Minister Trudeau alleged in the Canadian Parliament last year that he had evidence of the involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
India denied all allegations, calling them “absurd” and part of Trudeau’s political agenda. India had also accused Canada of giving space to extremist and anti-India elements in its country.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau acknowledged Wednesday that Canada did not have “concrete evidence” when he made the allegation last year. Following the admission, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said it “confirms” New Delhi’s stand and “states that Ottawa has not provided us with ‘any evidence’ against our officials and diplomats”.
