Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of the legendary IT companies of the country and the world, has been engulfed in controversies these days. Union Unite of IT and ITS Employees staged a protest in Chennai on Tuesday and claimed that TCS was fired about 12,000 employees, most of whom are mid and senior-level professionals. According to the report of Financial Express, Unite has also feared that the figure may go from 30,000 to 40,000. The organization says that the company is removing experienced employees and recruiting freshers on low salary so that the cost can be reduced.

Protests in Chennai, sharp questions arose

During the protest, union activists protested with banners and posters. In a poster, it was written- Remedy to stop- Union. The top officials of the company were targeted with sharp words like “head of cruelty” and “head of corporate greedy”. However, on this, TCS has now replied that the news of the retrenchment is wrong and misleading. The company has dismissed these allegations outright. The company said in an official statement that reports of the trimming of 30,000 employees are wrong and misleading. This effect is limited to 2% of our total workforce only.

What does the union say?

The representative of the Union Unite alleges that the company is deliberately targeting senior employees, so that freshers can be given jobs cheaply. He said that when the company has an annual revenue ₹ 2.55 lakh crore, operating profit margin 24.3% and dividend ₹ 45,588 crore, why are 12,000 jobs going? The union demands that there be apocilling, not trimmed. The union says that the company should insist on dismissing the employees rather than “throwing”. TCS is only earning profits by removing employees. This trimming is no need, but a strategy. Employees are not just the balance sheet numbers. We demand justice.
